Leapfrog MAXX PRO Hips is a soluble support material with a melting point that’s close to that of ABS. Because of this, HIPS is the best support material when printing ABS parts.
Hips can be used to print a support system for MAXX PRO ABS parts and MAXX PRO Hybrid parts. MAXX PRO Hips dissolves in D'Limonene solution. D'Limonene is the oil from the rinds of fruits. It eats away at Hips, leaving no residue afterwards.
The benefit to printing with a support material like Hips is that objects with overhangs, thin sections and complex geometries can be 3D printed without having to break away any supports afterwards. This reduced manual post-processing increases part-to-part consistency, and allows you to design more detailed, intricate models.
MAXX PRO Hips is compatible with the Leapfrog Creatr HS series, Xeed and Bolt 3D printers, due to these printer’s having an extrusion temperature up to 275 °C. Hips has an extrusion temperature of between 220-230 °C, however for the best results you should print at a high temperature to improve bonding with ABS. In addition to this, the bed temperature needs to be between 50-60°C for Hips to properly adhere and not warp itself.
