Z-PHA, Natural, 2kg


Zortrax Z-PHA is a 100% biodegradable filament that’s stronger and more durable than standard PLA. It prints relatively quickly and is available in black, white, grey, yellow, blue, green and red to suit most projects.


Z-PHA is a polyhydroxyalkanoate bioplastic. It’s grown in labs under controlled conditions using bacteria. The result is a carefully engineered bioplastic that’s strong and durable with eco-friendly characteristics beyond regular plastic.


3D printing with this material requires only the same time as PLA. Z-PHA produces precise, dimensionally-accurate models and prototypes. It has very low shrinkage - even lower than PLA - with good mechanical properties. It’s harder than PLA and even stronger making it less susceptible to impact damage.


Potential applications include biodegradable parts, mock-ups, exhibition models and functional prototypes in certain environments. Z-PHA is not recommended for high-temp environments, nor is it particularly resistant to chemicals, greases and oils. It is best used in stable environments, such as architecture studios.


Z-PHA is supported by the Zortrax M200 Plus and M300 Plus 3D printers. It can be used as a replacement for PLA to create strong parts that are still biodegradable. In a suitable industrial composting system, it composts within 3-6 months, around the same time as PLA.
